Obie Trice – On and On

December 13, 2009

Nice break on this one..  new stuff from Obie Trice taken from his upcoming album Special Reserve, which drops on Tuesday, and is also his first since leaving Shady. The entire album is produced by MoSS, who is the first producer signed to DJ Premier’s ”Works of Mart” production company. Sounds like a recipe for success, hopefully the album is as good as this track…

Gilles Peterson – KPACE.TV 66 Mix #3

December 11, 2009

What else do I need to say? Let the man speak for himself..

“Well well, kicking off with a little Slum Village double – check the remix from Alex B! A little Dilla-esque joint from my new ‘Havana Cultura’ album courtesy of rap duo Obsesion with something sweet from Owusu & Hannibal to follow. Digging deep for the 4hero remix by Hefner, something a bit special from Swell Session and Mark de Clive-Lowe featuring the gorgeous vocals of Anni Elif, and a little reminder of how good Portishead were too – those drums!! Martyn, Ramadanman (aka Pearson Sound) and Pangaea have all consistently delivered the goods for me this year, but what about the forerunners – Phuturistix with a stone cold 2-step classic and a little forgotten nugget from Shur-I-Kan – sounding fresher than ever today! Oh and some kid called Joy Orbison who’s straight killing it right now – huge tune for me alongside ‘Hyph Mngo’. Did I forget anyone? Oh only a cheeky session from the mighty Henrik, Kuniyuki and Yoshihiro rounding things off in some style. There you go then. Some old gems that I’d forgotten about and some new cats bringing that Detroit, funky, Afro, dubstep fusion. All killer, no filler! You know how I do.”

Martyn – Fabric 50

December 10, 2009

Diggin the latest Fabric mix which features Martyn, playing a nice selection of deep house, broken beat and dubstep flavours. Here’s what he had to say about it….

“I did the whole mix CD live just because I thought that was more honest than doing an Ableton DJ mix. It is how I would play live – not everything on the CD is perfect, but it’s not meant to be. That goes for my DJ sets and for my music as well; there’s always little bits and pieces that could have been much better or more streamlined or whatever, but that’s the beauty of music to me. I wanted it to be raw and honest. As for the selection, I just wanted to try and make it as varied as possible and get people from all different corners of the globe together on one CD. The idea of it was to bring together all these sounds and vibes, something I would never be able to do on a studio album, just because I’m not able to make all that sort of music. It’s amazing music though, I love it, so I want to play it to people.”

Coleco – December ‘09 Mix

December 10, 2009

Excellent stuff here, from Bristol’s Coleco, to start your day. Can’t say I know much about this guy, but I like his style. This mix starts off with some nice deeper elements of the broken beat/2-step sound and slowly progresses into some soothing harmonic dubstep ‘ish. Very nice! Looking forward to hearing more from Coleco in the future…

Stimming – Funk With Me

December 9, 2009

Here’s a nice minimal dubby venture from Stimming, that I slept on, to redeem myself for the last post. :) I think this was released in October – anyways, straight up classy beats, pretty much the standard when it comes to Stimming lately..
